Muslim groups and organisations in Harrow are aiming to collect 20 tonnes of food during Ramadan to help children in poverty.

The collection is taking place in preparation for the launch of Sufra – a community food bank aiming to help some of the 18,000 children in Brent and Harrow living under extreme hardship.

Sohaib Hassan, Sufra project manager said: “We are grateful to the local Muslim community for leading on our campaign to fill up our food bank.

“Mosques are open throughout the day and night and some of the largest in Brent and Harrow will act as regular collection points for donated food. We have an ambitious target but I think we can do it.”

Volunteers will manage collection points at Friday Prayers and Night Prayers in several mosques across the two Boroughs.

Among those participating in the campaign is Harrow Central Mosque and the Stanmore Islamic Centre.
