Better school meals and workshops against bullying are some of the ten things schoolchildren would do if they were given the keys to Downing Street.

The Harrow Times spoke to Year 4 pupils at Heathland Primary School, in Eastcote Lane, South Harrow, about what they would do if they were Prime Minister for a day.

Here are their top ten answers:

1. “I would make all schools have better school dinners, with no more mushy peas.”

(Varun, eight, who wants to be a footballer)

2.“I would build more parks, so more children can play outside.”

(Venkata, eight)

3. “If I was the Prime Minister for the day, I would run a workshop to stop bullying from older children, and educate children about bullying and how it is wrong.”

(Taiya, aged eight, who wants to be a doctor, famous or a politician)

4. “I would get more hospitals so we can save more people’s lives and make people better.”

(Michael, nine)

5. “If I was the Prime Minister I would probably go to schools and speak to children about what they want from their schools and teachers.”

(Vishvanna, nine, who wants to be an artist)

6. “I would decorate all the roads with plants and flowers so people can smile as they drive to work.”

(Sabinaa, nine)

7. “We only learn French in school and sometimes it gets boring, so I would probably let children vote on what they want to learn.”

(Taha, nine, who wants to be an engineer)

8. “I would just try to support everyone in what they want to do. When somebody has a problem, they need to have people to support them and help them make it better.”

(Rachel, aged eight, who wants to be an artist)

9. “I would have more fun rides for people, because when I go with my sister she says some of them are boring so we need bigger ones.”

(Susan, eight)

10. “If I was the Prime Minister, I would make all doctors earn more than footballers. Doctors save lives and there would be lots less people without them, but footballers just have fun and are really good.”

(Varun, eight, who still wants to be a footballer)
