Politically-minded pupils put forward their policies at a hustings-style event at a primary school.

Year 4 pupils from Heathland Primary School, in Eastcote Lane, have spent the oast few weeks learning about politics, from the number of MPs to what they do.

In a visit earlier today from Harrow West MP Gareth Thomas, students put all their hard work together to present their own political parties and manifestos.

Teacher Roseanna Olsi said: “It’s been a really interesting topic, and although they’re only eight or nine they have really understood what we’ve taught them.”

Pupil’s parties ranged from the RFE, or Royal Food Economy, party, which promised to improve school dinners, to The Litter Team, which pledged to clean and streets and encourage people to recycle.

The Eagle Eye party, which promised to lower tax and tuition fees, performed their slogan song and also tested people’s knowledge with a quiz about the number of children being bullied in the country.

Taiya, who hosted the quiz, said: “Our group want to end bullying and teach people it is wrong to bully. We would educate children about it and hold workshops.”
