London North West Healthcare NHS Trust has announced its new chief executive.

Former nurse Dame Jacqueline Docherty has joined the Trust from West Middlesex University Hospital, where she spent six years as chief executive after serving as deputy chief executive and director of operations and nursing at King’s College Hospital.

Dame Jacqueline has held a variety of posts including theatre sister at the Royal Free Hospital and senior nurse for acute services at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, before being appointed deputy director of nursing at West Lothian NHS Trust.

In 2004 Jacqueline was made a Dame Commander of the British Empire for services to nursing and the NHS.

Chairman Peter Worthington said: “I am delighted to welcome Jacqueline to the trust. She has demonstrated real dedication to challenging and improving healthcare standards, operational performance and patient safety in her previous roles.

“Jacqueline’s leadership and extensive experience will be invaluable as we continue to integrate across all the Trust’s acute and community sites, improve operational performance and move our new organisation towards increased financial stability and then foundation trust status.”

Dame Docherty succeeds David McVittie, whose three years of leadership saw in the merger which formed London North West Healthcare NHS Trust in October 2014.
