Harrow athletes completed one of the biggest races in the world raising thousands for charity in the process.

Nine runners crossed the London Marathon finish line on Sunday to help raise vital funds for St Luke’s Hospice.

Sian Cherrington, 25, from Harrow was inspired to run by her family and the care St Luke’s provided to her great grandmother.

She said: "I'd started running earlier in the year and wanted to push myself further.

"My father and grandfather ran the London Marathon in the past so I thought it would be the perfect challenge.

"I chose to run for St Luke's as a little over 10 years ago, they looked after my great-grandmother, Enid.

"The marathon is incredible, amazing and insane. It was by far the hardest thing I've ever done but I had a fantastic time and have some great memories. I would recommend anyone to do it.

"St Luke’s make a huge difference, not only to their patients, but to all of their families too. Thank you to the hospice for giving me the opportunity and a massive thank you to all those that have sponsored me, I'm very grateful."

The runners have to date raised a magnificent £11,100 in aid of St Luke’s.

Five Jewish Care supporters, including Liam Stein from Pinner, raised over £11,000 this year for Jewish Care.

Mr Stein ran with his friends Adam Goldman from St Albans and Josh Wynne from Chigwell, each closely connected with Jewish Care’s Redbridge Jewish Community Centre.

Liam said: "Having grown up spending a large portion of my childhood at Jewish Care's Redbridge Jewish Community Centre I saw firsthand the tireless work they do for families and the entire Jewish community.

"My family were involved in the centre for many years. My late grandma, Loretta Karbaron was a volunteer for many years running a discussion group and was also a bereavement councillor. I want to raise money to help Jewish Care continue to fund similar projects across London and the south east."

St Luke's Hospice is now looking for people to take on the challenge of Run Wembley, which will be held on Sunday, May 15, through a flat and safe multi-terrain course.

Entry is £15, or £13 for affiliated running club members, for the 10k.
