The family of the "face of Culver Bowling Club" has paid tribute to a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Queenie Garratt, ex-President of the Culver Bowling Club, Stanmore, died of a heart attack in Northwick Park Hospital.

The 92-year-old was always active in the Stanmore community from the time she arrived in 1946 from St John’s Wood.

She and her husband, George, helped found the Stanmore Community Association in the difficult post-war days.

They were active parents at the foundation of Aylward Primary School.

Later they helped develop the Canons Park Community Association and became active in both the Culver Bowls Club, Stanmore, and the Herga Bowls Club in Harrow.

Mrs Garratt, who died on April 28, was one of three sisters and two brothers. She was educated at Burlington School.

A lover of English literature and history, she was diverted from her wish to read history at Oxford to war work on developing and manufacturing radar screens at Hilger and Watts, Camden Town.

She had two daughters and two sons - Robert, Linda, Susan and Peter, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at the Brakespear Crematorium, Ruislip, HA4 7SJ, at 12pm on Wednesday, May 11.
