Three adults and two children had a lucky escape following a flat fire in Harrow last night.

Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers dealt with the blaze in a two storey house converted into two flats in Lulworth Gardens.

The fire badly damaged the ground floor flat which also affected the first floor.

A woman and two children in the ground floor flat escaped after hearing smoke alarm sounding.

A further two women left their flat on the first floor. They all left the property before the arrival of London Fire Brigade, sustaining no injuries.

A spokesperson for the brigade said: "Everyone should have at least one smoke alarm on every level of your home and the safest option is have those linked together. This will give the earliest warning if there is a fire in your home."

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental caused by incense sticks.

London Fire Brigade was called at 8.52pm and the fire was under control by 10.05pm. Fire crews from Wembley and Northolt fire stations attended the scene.
