THE MP for Harrow West believes a new 24-hour tube will help people who work late at night.

Gareth Thomas has welcomed Mayor of London Sadiq Khan’s announcement of a night tube, which will launch on the Central and Victoria lines on August 19.

The service will run all night on Fridays and Saturdays and the Piccadilly, Jubilee and Northern lines will follow later in the autumn.

The Jubilee line will run to Stanmore for 24-hours.

The plans were due to start last September but were delayed after union members went on strike over the service, along with issues about their pay and conditions.

Mr Thomas said the new tube will give low paid workers extra hours.

He said: “I think the night tube will be a great addition and will help many people in Harrow.

“One of Sadiq Khan’s first acts as Mayor was to introduce a “hopper” bus fare and he has now reached agreement on the night tube which will help some of London’s lowest paid workers and those who work unsocial hours.

“The night tube will also benefit party goers, concert and gig attendees in Harrow and I will be pushing for TfL to extend it to the Metropolitan Line as soon as possible.”

Mr Khan announced yesterday the tube had been a priority for him since becoming Mayor, in order to improve the number of delays.

He said: "The Night Tube is absolutely vital to my plans to support and grow London's night time economy - creating more jobs and opportunities for all Londoners.

“The constant delays under the previous Mayor let Londoners down badly.

“I have made getting the Night Tube up and running a priority, and London Underground has now confirmed that services on the first two lines will launch on August 19.”
