A wheelchair basketball player is readying himself for the 2016 Paralympic games in Rio.

Simon Brown, co-captain of the GB wheelchair basketball team, will fly out to Brazil with his teammates on Sunday in preparation for the games, which start on September 7.

Brown, from Kingsbury, was first introduced to the sport at the age of 12 through a community project at his school.

After earning success with the under-22 team, Simon made his debut for the senior side in 2007, helping the team earn a bronze medal at the following Paralympic Games in Beijing in 2008.

Brown now heads to Brazil as a double European champion.

The Team GB men’s basketball team kick off their tournament against Algeria at 11.45am on Thursday, September 8.
