A rail worker was knocked unconscious and is left with a fractured skull after an unprovoked attack.

Police were called to Harrow on the Hill station early this morning (May 21) at 12.15am to reports of a worker at the station being punched at the gate line of the station.

British Transport Police says he suffered a bleed on the brain and a fractured skull after being knocked out.

He remains in hospital for further assessment to his injuries.

A CCTV image has been released of a man who could have helpful information into the investigation.

Detective Sergeant Mike Blakeburn said: “This was an appalling and unprovoked act of violence on a member of staff simply doing their job, and we are doing all we can to trace the person responsible.

"We know a number of people witnessed the incident at the time and I would urge them to come forward to assist our investigation.”
