The huge new music and culture venue housed on the former IKEA Tottenham site has officially opened its doors.

Drumsheds London welcomed revellers and partygoers in for the first time on Saturday, October 7, for a night of disco led by DJ and party producer outfit La Discothèque, who brought along a line up of acts that featured the likes of Gilles Peterson, Derrick Carter, Camelphat, Norman Jay, and Hercules & Love Affair.

Drumsheds is the new cultural venue from Broadwick Live, the team behind east London club Printworks which closed earlier this year in May due to its site being scheduled for redevelopment, and behind Field Day and Canning Town club The Beams also.

For Drumsheds, Broadwick Live partnered up United Visual Artists to create the 15,000-capacity venue housed in the former IKEA Tottenham warehouse.

The landmark cultural venue is set to host some of the biggest electronic acts in the upcoming months including Hot Chip, Bicep and the Sugababes.

The mega-club is more than twice the of Printworks and about a third bigger than Alexandra Palace, and much of the bone structure of the Swedish furniture giant’s north London home has been retained throughout the ginormous venue, creating an industrial feel.

The carpark is now the ticket hall, the café is now a bar, and the loading bay is now a dancefloor, for example.

Spread over the site’s sprawling 608,000 square feet, you’ll find three dancefloors, in the X, Y and Z rooms, five bars, an additional space called The Gallery, which has a 5,000 capacity and more than 66,000 square feet of space, and an outdoor area called The Yard which is a prime spot for warm weather parties, markets and festivals.
