Bessborough were dumped out of the Middlesex Cup after a 54-run defeat at Winchmore Hill in the second round on Sunday.

The hosts opted to bat first after winning the toss with rain reducing the game to 40 overs per side.

Winchmore Hill got off to a bright start with opening pair Morgan Prior (48) and Charlie Holmes (45) putting on 101 for the first wicket.

Sherrick Chavda (three for 33) bagged three wickets in the final over but that didn’t take much of the shine off Winchmore Hill’s total of 253 for nine.

Bessborough made a poor start to their run chase with Kushal Patel failing to add to last week’s century.

Sanil Shah followed him back to the clubhouse for just four which left the visitors struggling on seven for two.

Sherrick Chavda (30) and Hemmen Jutla (34) did their best to keep up with the rate but a flurry of wickets around the 20-over mark ended their chances of victory.

Eranda Jeyasinghe (33), Jay Chavda (32) and Stephen Kimsey (seven not out) showed some spirit with the latter pair sharing a last-wicket stand of 38 but Bessborough finished on 199 all out from 37 overs.

Bessborough’s first team picked up a six-wicket friendly win over Harrow on Saturday.

Sharuban Kanthasamy was the pick of the side’s bowlers taking three for 21 while Sahil Hathi claimed three for 39 as Harrow were dismissed for 199.

Bessborough’s innings got off to a slow start but a partnership of 139 between opener Ishan Shah (61 not out) and Ian Barrie (103) steered them to victory.
