Wealdstone manager Gordon Bartlett admits his squad is too big to keep everyone happy and expects to make changes over the next few weeks.

The Stones are third bottom in the National League South after a slow start to the season but Bartlett believes he has too many players and is considering letting some of the squad move on.

Bartlett said: “We got to this stage last year and decided to move one or two on. Everybody has now had an opportunity and we need to make a few decisions.

“There will be one or two changes in the next few weeks. We can’t carry the depth of squad we have at the moment. It’s certainly too big to keep everyone happy so we may move a few out on loan.”

Wealdstone were held to their second successive goalless draw in the league on Saturday after failing to break down Chelmsford City.

It leaves the Stones two places above bottom side Basingstoke Town ahead of their trip this weekend.

Bartlett said: “We are in a situation where we have slipped into the bottom three. I don’t think we deserve to be there but we have only picked up six points this season.

“I am confident we will pick up points over the next month and sincerely hope that includes three on Saturday.

“But judging by the possession they had at St Albans on Monday they are not going to be pushovers.”

The Stones had no problems scoring last night after thrashing CB Hounslow United 9-0 in the Middlesex Senior Charity Cup.

Connor Calcutt scored five times while Jefferson Louis netted a hat-trick and Dan Brown was also on target.

Bartlett said: “Goalscorers love to score and getting five goals and a hat-trick cannot do any harm. But we are not getting carried away because there was a huge difference in standard.”

Defender Tom Cadmore and midfielder Dale Binns also stepped up their fitness after injury lay-offs.

Wealdstone have been drawn at home to Biggleswade Town on Saturday, September 26 in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup.
