Wealdstone manager Gordon Bartlett admits he is still frustrated with the way his side are playing despite progressing to the third qualifying round of the FA Cup.

The Stones extended their unbeaten run to seven matches in all competitions after their 2-0 replay win at Biggleswade Town on Tuesday night.

It secured a third qualifying round trip to Brockenhurst a week on Saturday, but Bartlett was more concerned with improving the performances of his team.

He said: “We are seven games unbeaten having conceded just three goals and I’m not happy because collectively we can do so much better.

“Defensively we’ve been pretty solid but there is room for improvement in so many areas. Too many players are under par at the moment.

“We’ve tweaked the personnel recently but I still don’t think we’ve got it right. We haven’t gelled and the balance is still not there.”

Goals from Jefferson Louis and Shaun Lucien were enough to see off Biggleswade but the performance did not please Bartlett. He admitted: “I thought they were the better side until we scored.

"The lads knew it wasn’t good enough because my half time team talk was less than complimentary.

"In fairness they showed a lot more in the second half. The good news is we’re grinding out results.”

In Saturday’s home game between the sides it finished 1-1 after Matt Ball’s opener was cancelled out by Sam Merson’s lob.

Defender Tom Cadmore returned to the side but suffered a setback when he was forced off with an ankle ligament injury which could keep him out for a month.

Wealdstone host National League South mid-table Dartford this Saturday and Bartlett expects their opponents to challenge for promotion this season.

He said: “I watched Dartford a few weeks back and they looked a really good side. They had a hiccup against Uxbridge but they will be looking to get back on track.

“They were in the Conference last year and I fully expect them to be up near the top by the end of the season.”
